hey all great people following my blogging here.
i finally figured out how to move the blog from sophiealexandrine.wordpress.com to creativesoldiers.wordpress.com.
- i’ve been wanting to do that ever since i started blogging. the blog isn’t supposed to be about me, it’s about the creative soldier marching inside all of us, so it makes sense that the blog is called what it is.

bonbon lamps + hive lamps

i just discovered serbian designer ana kras. bonbon lamps are strings knitted manually over a steel wire shape and hive lamps are a standing version of the same concept.

check her out, she’s so talented. i love the way she photographs her stuff in messy environments. http://www.anakras.com

the milan design week is approaching rapidly and on various design pages you can find previews of some of the upcoming exhibitors.

marje van aubel is one of these, as well as one of the netherland’s young brilliant design minds. she’s developed this beatiful, porous looking, delicate and new type of material: porcelain foam. the material is filled with air but strong enough to be glaced.

i love the rough, unfinished look of it and would love to see the products’ fabrication process – it must be quite complicated! using porcelain as a furniture material is just so…..sorry……FRESH!

i’ve been dying to show you this amazing piece of work for ages, but i had some difficulties getting a hold of the photos in a format that wordpress would let me upload in.
now they’re here, but please check out the crazy cool website and work of lifegoods for better photos and lots of inspiring stuff.
the lamp is called ‘ at-at walker ‘ and is inspired by the walking vehicle of ‘ star wars – the empire strikes back ‘.

i’m totally in love with the idea of turning a drawer function into a lamp, and transforming the open-drawer function into a light switch function.

an insaaaaaaanely cool comment on how little we make use of the ceilings of our homes today.

an unexpected mystery that catches the eye and instantly initiates a line of thought: what is that? why is it up there? who would live there? where is alice in wonderland? – thoughts that, altogether, create a certain parallel world effect, and for a minute makes you see the world in a different light.

kawamura ganjavian

this madrid based studio was established in 2000 by key portilla-kawamura and ali ganjavian.
with their design they strive to challenge the ways we experience design.

‘plug on’ connects you directly to the source of power, initiating thoughts on the origin af electricity. the lamp makes up an interesting variety to the regular pressing-the-power-socket to turn on the light – an everyday act that, to some extend, causes a distance between you as a user and the power as a source.
‘read in peace’ challenges the traditional reading positions and is just a really pretty piece of furniture. i do wonder, though, how you keep the pages of a book from flipping up while reading. anyways, very prrrretty!

the hansen family is run by half-danish, half-german designer, gesa hansen. not only are her pieces beautiful – they come with a beautiful story. the furniture’s made from homegrown, handpicked, ecological oak. each piece is handcrafted and unique.

it’s all about the wood and the colours for gesa hansen, and as her webpage suggests: the design features the wood!
